EU Accessibility Act / WCAG 2.1 AA for Shopify
Make your store accessible — audit, fix at the source, document.
The EU Accessibility Act requires your storefront to meet WCAG 2.1 AA. AccessProof audits the real rendered pages, fixes issues at the source — starting with AI alt-text written back to your images — and exports an evidence report. We do not sell an overlay.
TOOLING — NOT LEGAL ADVICE The accessibility score measures how many WCAG 2.1 AA checks pass — it is not legal advice and does not guarantee WCAG or EAA compliance; no tool can. Install from the Shopify App Store — AccessProof runs inside your Shopify admin.
How it works
Audit
1AccessProof fetches your rendered storefront pages and scores them against WCAG 2.1 AA — the standard the EU Accessibility Act relies on — no orders or customer data.
Fix at the source
2The flagship fix is alt text: grounded AI describes the actual product image, you review it, and we write it back to the real image — persistent and reversible. Structural issues come with copy-paste theme guidance.
Document
3Export a print-friendly EAA/WCAG evidence report of what was found and fixed — honest tooling, not a compliance badge.
What we check
Every page is scored against the WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria below, weighted by severity — critical issues (like missing alt text) cost the most. Colour contrast needs a full browser render and is reported separately.
Images without alt text
criticalForm fields without a label
seriousLinks / buttons with no name
seriousPage language & title missing
seriousZoom disabled in the viewport
seriousHeading order, skip link, IDs
moderateWhy not an overlay?
Overlay widgets can't fix broken HTML — and in 2025 the US FTC fined an overlay vendor $1,000,000 for claiming its widget made sites WCAG-compliant. Accessibility plaintiffs specifically target overlay-only stores. AccessProof fixes issues in your real images and theme instead, and reports honestly.
